TECHNICAL NOTES

The Thompson Contender and Encores are unique in that they are break open designs and have two firing pins, one for centerfire and one for rimfire. Our insert barrels place the 22LR cartridge at the extreme rear of the of the insert. After firing, the action is opened and the extractor pulls the barrel insert out slightly where the fired 22LR case can be removed easily without tools.

For  break open rifles other than the Thompson Contenders and Encores, a simple plug with a firing pin is used to detonate the rimfire round. A rod is then used to remove the fired case. These barrel inserts are only available in cartridges over 40 caliber.

TECHNICAL NOTES

The rimfire inserts are made to the size of the rifle cartridge with bullet. They weigh very little and are convenient to carry in the field. After firing, the empty insert is removed by your rifle's extractor and your big game rifle is back in action!
